His other extensive assignments there included the Oklahoma City bombing, the arrest and subsequent trial of O.J. Simpson, and election coverage for Decision 1994 and 1996.

During his tenure at WCBS-TV, he covered transportation news and was doing a live standup on a Midtown street in May of 2005. The standup was for a story about MetroCard swindles when 2 men behind him were taunting and harassing him on camera, gesturing vulgarly and holding up a sign for the radio show, “Opie & Anthony.” Just after his report was over, Chi’en turned to the harassers and taunters, and, believing he was off the air but he wasn’t, he shouted at them, using a 4-letter word that the Federal Communications Commission bans. Chi’en was, however, fired by WCBS-TV.
