During his time in college, Phillips gained valuable experience working for the NBC affiliate KOMU-TV in Columbia. There, he reported and anchored numerous newscasts while juggling his full-time studies. As a former college athlete, Phillips dedicates much of his leisure time to the gym. When not there, he can be found taking his two golden retrievers, Shelby and Abby, for walks.
