For over 15 years, Willis has worked as a BBC foreign correspondent. He started his broadcasting career as a junior reporter for the Hertfordshire Mercury prior to joining the BBC in 1983. Through a stint on local radio and regional television, he relocated to London to work as a political correspondent based at the Houses of Parliament.
In 1994, David’s career as a foreign correspondent began when he was appointed as an Asia correspondent for the BBC. While in Singapore, he covered the Hong Kong handover, Mother Teresa’s funeral, and the death of Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping, as well as obtaining exclusive photographs of Cambodian dictator Pol Pot’s “trial” by fellow Khmer Rouge cadres for six years.

While in Asia he was also marked by a series of exclusive reports on the downfall of the so-called “rogue trader” Nick Leeson.
