Kemper plays the title role in the Netflix comedy series Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (2015), for which she has received critical acclaim. In the summer of 2015, she joined NBC News as a temporary co-host on NBC’s morning news program, The Today (1952) Show.

Previously, Kemper played field hockey at Princeton in the 1999 season, though she claims she sat on the bench “roughly 97%” of the time. Her field hockey team went to the national championship in her freshman year, but she quit the team in later years to focus on theater. It was announced on May 3, 2022, that The Roku Channel would be airing a new season of the show, with Paul Hollywood coming back as judge, along with Prue Leith from GBBO. Roku also stated the plans to air The Great American Baking Show: Celebrity Holiday Edition, featuring celebrities competing to raise money for charity.
