For the first five fights of his career, he fought them in Montana before leaving to fight in North Dakota and eventually fought for Legacy Fighting Alliance where he got a highlight reel knockout over David Nuzzo.
Later after his win over Nuzzon, Sean earned a spot on Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series when he took on Alfred Khashakyan and he beat Alfred with a stunning knockout in the first round and was awarded a UFC contract.
He made his professional debut on March 6, 2015, at Intense Fighting Championship 17, taking on Josh Reyes and he won with a leg lock at 1:33 in the first round.

O’Malley made his UFC debut against Terrion Ware in the TUF 26 season finale where he won the fight via unanimous decision.
Sean stayed undefeated and in his most recent fight, against Andre Soukhamthath at UFC 222 where he won the fight by unanimous decision, despite injuring his foot in the third round. The fight earned him the Fight of the Night bonus.
On October 6, 2018, at UFC 229, Sean was expected to face José Alberto Quiñónez but Sean announced that he was out of the fight on September 30 due to a potential Anti-Doping Policy violation.
