Davis was the Broncos’ sixth pick in the 1995 NFL Draft. He holds the record for most rushing touchdowns in a single postseason and is the all-time leading rusher for the Broncos. Nicknamed “T. D.” denoting both the initials of his first and last name and the abbreviation for a touchdown.
He helped his team lead 12-2 playing in other positions including kicker. Davis set the Lincoln Prep record in the discus throw as a member of the track team. Davis went to play baseball at Long Beach State University after graduation. His brother Reggie persuaded the school to grant Davis a scholarship for him being a tailback there before him.
Davis joined the football team that was coached by former Washington Redskins coach George Allen at Long Beach State. He redshirted his freshman year to give him an extra year of eligibility. He never played an official game for coach Allen because Allen died after the 1990 season. Afterward, Davis played and rushed for 262 yards and 55 carries the following season.
After transferring to Georgia he backed up future NFL starting running back Garrison Hearst in his first season. Davis tore his hamstring muscle which sidelined him for three games in his senior season. He was invited to the Blue–May Football Classic game after the season.
T.D.’s reputation for being injury-prone hurt his standing in the NFL draft, along with the fact that Coach Goff denied scouts game film of Davis. He graduated from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Consumer Economics.
