His broadcasting career in news began in Eureka at KVIQ-TV, where he aided the launch of a morning newscast. His next stop was in Steinbeck Country at KSBW-TV in Salinas. Tamaoya went back to the Bay Area at KRON-TV, where he served on the morning newscasts and produced environmental reports.
Tamayo joined KTVU FOX2 in 2008 where he received two Emmys for the best weather reporting. He was honored with another Emmy for his contribution to the Napa earthquake coverage. During his leisure time, He continues to learn more about weather phenomena. Tamayo has reported on environmental topics ranging from fire science research to the latest NASA technology to monitor changing snow conditions in the Sierra.
He is passionate about Bay Area schools bringing weather lessons to the classroom. Tamayo has acquired presentations that make science fun and exciting for our local students. He was one of the project leads to help coordinate the first-ever Weather Education Day with the Oakland Athletics in 2019. We hosted over 2000 students at the Oakland Coliseum.
